We do not have this day. Apparently it is a peculiarity in the anglophone regions. Of course the 11.11. is also a special day of remembrance for us. Around this time, articles appear in the newspapers and films and detailed documentaries about World War are broadcast on TV. But we do not have that special symbolism with the poppy. This impresses me very much. I've tried a contribution to this. I hope it is appropriate. My thoughts turn not only to the dead of the two World Wars, but also to all people on this earth who still suffer violence and a senseless death today.

Your words and your image are very moving Jerome. The image portrays the huge dark sacrifice, the light stamped out in so many families in order to keep alive the flame of hope and freedom to flourish. In as much as I wonder at the goodness and beauty in the world, I also despair at the hate and violence. Thank you for your thoughtful and poignant post.
Thank you for embracing the remembrance day that is important here in Australia - you image symbolises this so well. Your words, and those of Helen @helenhall are a tribute to the peace that we would all like to see across our beautiful world. Thanks and fav
Outstanding creation as tribute for remembrance day. The opening of this field of poppies with all that single seadheads, escorted by the dark and the light in the single poppy blossom is such a great symbol for this day.
Aaah I am never disappointed when I get a chance to visit your page, Jerome. So beautiful - a stunning, unique image as you do so well - and amazing words to go with it.
I was not sure if I could contribute to Remembrance Day. It is a memorial day of the Commonwealth of Nations member states. It refers to one of the darkest times in the history of the twentieth century. I do not want to simplify anything incorrectly. And it's also about feelings that I want to respect. But perhaps it is permissible to raise the memory of this day to a general level, without taking away its deep meaning. So it was my concern in this picture to think of all those who suffered and suffer from war and violence in any form - men, women, children. Actually, I believe that no war leaves winners.
Ich mag deinen Tribut. Da hast du recht, Krieg verlässt viele Verlierer.
@northy Thanks, Northy, for your nice visit!
A powerful image... When I look at the picture now, I almost feel that it is too strong, that the "light" of the blooming poppy is too bright. Maybe the picture works better and conveys the statement more fittingly when the light is softer, gentler and "quieter".
Often I need time for a picture. As I work longer, I become routine-blinded. Then it is good if I put the picture aside and look at it again the next day or later. Then my look is fresh and unspent. My judgment is then usually better.
But what is really good, can only be decided in direct comparison. I would like more time for the consequent editing of a picture. But probably many people feel that way.
@helenhall Thanks, Helen! I always appreciate your opinion. I am not always sure about my work. A feedback is then very important to me.
Yes, there is not only beauty in the world. Not everywhere do people have the necessary essentials and the conditions for a life in freedom and security. Not everywhere can people develop themselves personally. It is terrible how much money is spent on this earth for producing weapons of war, while many people have to live in inhumane conditions. What I find meaningful: the reflection on the really important, compassion, empathy, mutual respect for the other, justice.
@casablanca Danke für deine schönen Zeilen! Danke für deine Meinung und deine Gedanken! Ich stimme dir völlig zu - es kommt sehr darauf an, dass wir aus der Geschichte lernen. Gewiss gibt es noch viel zu tun...
@vignouse Thanks, Richard! I am always very happy about your visit.
Since I know about the poppies blowing in Flanders fields, I look at a poppy differently than before. A symbol that impresses and touches me a lot. I think the poem works the most when interpreted as an appeal for peace.
Thank you all for your so nice comments! It touches me very much...
