I went to the Bluebell Wood today, a wood which has the native English Bluebell, not the Spanish brought in by the Victorians or hybrids from "escapes".
You can tell the English by the droop of the blossoms like a traditional Shepherd's crook.
Its delicate sweet scent
Narrow rolled back lips
Creamy white pollen
Slender pointed leaves.
I only went to the easy part of the wood today, but there is a slightly less accessible area which I must visit before the end of the season.

@fbailey We could easily take them for granted couldn't we? And then we see they are in blossom and can't wait to get close to them. I wonder what the reversed lens can do??? Or maybe a bit more sensible, my macro lens on the old Pany.

Love this close up and the wonderful curly petals. The lovely English blue bell is beautiful. The hybrids are lovely too but nowhere near as graceful as the English.
@joev Thanks, Joe. I thought a single flower on the moss would clearly show the creamy pollen - and I could take the close ups without having to crouch! Down is easy - up a nightmare

@gaylewood Thank you, Gayle. I was playing last night with a flower from my own garden which has masses of Bluebells but sadly they are hybrids, not planted by me, they came with the house when we bought it! I'm trying the reversed lens on a blossom today.

@susie1205 Thank you, Susie. I've been playing with the reversed lens on one of my garden Bluebells. Not yet happy with the results but there is still plenty of time
