Not all carnivores have teeth

Sundew a first for me on a day my friend saw her first Green Hairstreak butterfly.
If anyone is offended by the image of an insect eating plant, my apologies and I will take it down if requested.

How could anyone be offended by such an attractive little plant - lions and tigers appear here now and again!

Wow, great looking plant.

Fabulous details. What nice focusing.

Great capture

@fbailey Lions & Tigers, no problem, but anything with its prey could be unpleasant for many (self included!).
I'd never seen these before and had no idea how tiny they are, would have walked past them I think. Good job Lin, who knows everything there is to know about plants, was looking for them, and 2 Labradogs stopped to talk to us right beside the dried up puddle where the Sundew were growing

@joev @milaniet @susie1205 Thank you all so much. This was a wonderful first for me and now I know where they are and what to look for I hope to see them next month when I go looking for England's rarest moth.

what a great plant, nature is always worth observing :)

Do you know what this plant is? As I took a macro shot of this plant two weeks ago on 2 June. Does like like a fly trap but I didn't see any mouths? Did yours have mouths?

@koalagardens You are so correct, the great outdoors, even if it's only your own tiny garden, is a wonderful place to be.

@rubysandals I'm putting up another shot of the Sundew so you can see the captured insects more clearly. I'll take it down when you've seen it as I don't care to display anything dead if possible.

Super little plant, nature so clever! Awesome capture!

@bigmxx I'd never seen them before, I knew they were at Strensall Common but I tend to look for butterflies & moths there.
They are very tiny, low lying too, easy to miss.
Thanks, Michelle

Great find Jesika, I think they dissolve the prey and absorb the resulting soup. I have seen them before, I know a site where they are ( or at least were) not that far from me.

@markp I'd love to claim credit, but my friend was searching for them as I was looking for Green Hairstreak. 2 Labradogs stopped us beside the drying pond where the plants were growing. The dogs get the credit.
Thanks for the information, I thought it was something like that.

Well, this is simply a stunning plant! Never heard of it before either. I don't even see the butterfly but maybe my brain doesn't want to see that part. I see an amazing colorful and sparkly plant! FAVorite!

@gardenfolk Thank you. The Sundew didn't capture a butterfly, so no need to worry about that. It's a different matter for flies though. I'd put up a second photo which had captured prey showing but took it down because I'm unhappy about dead anythings unless it was a natural death and I can use it for ultra close up work.
I'd never seen them before but my friend is a botantist so was searching for them.

@jesika2 Well, flies are mostly pests, aren't they? It might be interesting to see that since I dislike them in my house or landing on my food! I am a lover of animals, birds and wildlife so would not want to see anything happen to them! I have not eaten meat since 1992!
