The Big Butterfly Count 2018 (until 12 August)

The Big Butterfly Count starts today. If you are in Britain, please spare 15 minutes (or several 15 minutes) to count & record butterflies. The website is easy to find.
Your contribution is important - even a zero count "counts".

Beautiful capture and that's great that you are able to participate in the butterfly count.

@joev It's an annual event, Joe, and demonstrates trends in butterfly numbers.

I did try to find some today Jesika, but I think they were mostly sheltering from the rain x

@fbailey It's not just today, it's several weeks....we were expecting/hoping for wet stuff - still waiting!
Been playing with clouds again, I really need a dramatic sky, all I have is blue & fluffy. The nd filter is 8.

Love the one in flight. Have seen so few here this summer.

@milaniet Thank you. This was taken from video in one of those "special" places where there are no insecticides/pesticides. Where nature is allowed to do what it does best. Brockadale is a nature reserve. But cut road side verges before plants can set seed, spray, spray & spray again - we can only expect few of the vitally important tiny life forms to survive.

@julienne1 Thank you. The heat has left me stranded at home so I don't know what's happening in the big wide world but I've had a lot of whites, few bright colours, a Holly Blue every day and a Brimstone boy since counting began on Friday.

@jesika2 yes the whites are almost too many to count at the moment. Not seen any Brimstone here since spring sadly. Quite a few Commas, Skippers, Gatekeepers and Common blue but almost no Peacocks or Tortoiseshell at the moment
