The caterpillar's final skin, shrugged off as it wriggles to transform itself from larva to pupa. I often wonder if it hurts, it certainly looks exhausting and painful.

@susiemc There's a long way to go, Sue, hopefully we'll get to see the eclosion (emergence) of the butterfly. If not this one, there are several others so with luck and a following wind...

@steveandkerry Strange you should say that, I had the same thought, at least if photographed from this angle. I have other shots which show more of the setae but it looks more crunched & less interesting. I suppose it's only right that the head should be at the top.
