Thing! by jesika2

Thing!

CRied more today than I have since Lindi died 4 years ago. Why? Because my failing grey cell couldn't remember how to put this contraption together and I can't even remember what it's called. I DO know how to work it though.
My excuse is that 27th was the anniversary of the birth of His Lordship The Mighty Muscles and another important anniversary too.
I'm fooling myself, I think I'm in the early stages of mental decline.

That would be me too!

@susie1205 but I know how to set them up. I’ve done woodwork at night school and watched my very clever dad. I’ve used the blasted things more times than I can remember. I spent hours trying to figure it out. Took Julia a minute. “Don’t beat yourself up,” she said as I walked home in tears…

can relate! I forget how to load those things too!

Apparently they are called caulking guns, but I’ve always called them mastic guns.
They are simple to use, and also to load. However they are also very prone if not used often, to stick or corrode together. So you press a part that should release, and it doesn’t because it’s rusted together . Instead of thinking what a cheap and nasty piece of kit this is, you think I’ve done something wrong.
In the past I have used a power tool to remove the empty tube of mastic, and clouted the supposedly movable metal bits with a hammer, with zero effect.
New ones normally work.

@markp this was new so I can’t blame that. I simply couldn’t understand how to load the tube. I have 3 professional qualifications and an MSc so my conclusion is that my remaining grey cell is in rapid decline!

Your post made me laugh - how often the simple things in life defeat me!

@rontu @blueberry1222 @fishers Thank you all. I've done the job I had to do but I'm leaving the THING in one piece because it will be used for another job and I'm not risking my grey cell any further than I have to!
