Orion

Some very lucky people around Britain are seeing an unbelievably strong Aurora tonight. Needless to say I'm not!
But I've been playing with the Super Sixty macro lens on the OM1, hoping to show the Orion nebula in the sword. A series of short exposures, 2 seconds seems best so far, with increasing ISO. This shot is 12,800, with no noise reduction other than that in camera. Pics are jpeg, not RAW, need to see what I can/can't do before I start playing with RAW data editing.

If it was there, I'm surprised the camera didn't pick it up. Lucky for some, eh!

@janturnbull talking about Aurora? No chance of seeing it where I live and of course it drizzled all night! Supposed to be visible tonight and it’s raining again. Oh well…

@365projectorgchristine @koalagardens thanks. I’ve got plans for more shots if it’s ever clear enough and shooting RAW to pick up more details so I can crop a bit. Of course this means I have to try to make sense of Olympus Workspace, the RAW editing software for OM1. I feel a brain ache coming on!

That is quite a challenge you have set yourself! As for the aurora, no chance of seeing it due to cloud, though I have seen the aurura from the back of my house, around 25 years ago. Sadly too many people have outdoor lights now so I am less likely to see it here again.

@fishers I stumbled upon some info about photographing the Orion Nebula using my OM1 which has interesting potential. now if the sky gods would clear the cloud for a couple of hours so I can play…
