Our Biggest Fans

Big basketball for our high schoolers last night! These three precious elders never miss a game. Between the 3 of them, they are grandmothers or great-grandmothers to most of our village! ("Grandmother" in Inupiaq is "Aana" pronounced "Ahh-na") Note the wolverine ruffs on two of their parkas!
I love this picture. Such a lot of wisdom and history in one shot. Fav

This reminds me of my 92-year-old mother who still gets out to the NMSU Aggies' volleyball, basketball, baseball and softball games. Who says sports fans are all youngsters?

This is a great picture. Even if it is not going to improve the way I take pictures, the 365 is sure to widen my own horizons - I love to have such immediate insight in so many parts of the world that I have not yet been to. Thank you for this!

@kerrynz @anazad511 @notperfectbutmine @cruiser @czechinjapan @teachntravel @lsanderson55 @mbemis @chris17 @vera365 @mothermalarky Oh wow!! Thanks SO MUCH for all your kind comments! I truly appreciate it. These are, indeed, beautiful ladies. They all have witty and raucous sense of humor and I adore them. The one in the middle is blind, but that doesn't keep her from attending and keeping her grandkids in line! The one on the right has taught me a great deal about traditional sewing techniques. They are revered in this small community. Thank you again for your comments and faves and follows!

@caroline11820 @ukandie1 @aglennc Thank you for the feedback. I do feel very lucky to know these wise ladies. The one on the right dropped by my class this afternoon for a visit. She participated in today's effort to teach fractions. She was impressed by the unifix cubes the kids had to help them - she said back in her day they just had paper and pencil and now she's forgotten all of it anyway!

These ladies are wonderful. I know one or two like this who, in spite of age and its attendant challenges, remain feisty, funny and a testament to age and experience.

Beautiful and powerful portrait. So important, as Vera @vera365 says, to get to know other people and other cultures. Only 365 has so far thought me that through the beautiful pics posted from all parts of the world. Fav

Unique phograph. I found you via the cranberries tag; I picked 25kgs last month and made some photos during cooking. But what a unique area do you live! And how well do you photograph them. Fav. Follow.
