Most Remembrance Day ceremonies and events were moved inside today, what with all the driving rain and gusting wind. One exception was the ceremony held around the cenotaph at Halifax's Grand Parade. The organizer didn't want to mess with tradition, saying something like: "They fought in the rain; we can honour and remember them in the rain." I'm not sure how long it has been customary to place your poppy on the cenotaph after the ceremony, but I like it. I prefer to keep mine, though, and wear it a bit longer.

nice tribute! i never know what to do with my poppy afterwards. i know i can't keep it forever but i feel bad throwing it away. i wish they could recycle them for next year...
I didn't see this yesterday! I like to hang onto mine too, but Pickle destroys them, so maybe I should do something more like this. Beautiful soft edit here.
@chewyteeth ~ White poppy in my heart, but red poppy on the lapel. I would never dream of insulting a veteran and I've heard that some of them find white poppies as such.
yeh, I've bit my lip all through the period, yours is the first 11/11 pic I commented on because it was genuinly nice. All these Americans writing about freedom, died for freedom etc. do they do American history at school? I don't think America has had one war to free anyone since the 1770's. I don't know, I could talk to a vet for an hour about tanks and tactics but I kinda feel like we need a annual rememberance for the people, that soldiers kill, not so much the soldiers. controversial I know.
@chewyteeth I think the World Wars were pretty respectable compared to the horrible things that people do in the name of war these days - both holy and unholy. I know Remembrance Day is for more than just the WWs, but those are the only ones I personally connect to the wearing of poppies.
@jgoldrup well yeah, I'm not planning on overturning the movement. How much about the great war and WW2 was justified afterwards though? Mostly just wars of dominance and hegemony. But yeah I agree with the wars since then statement.
@jgoldrup Sometimes I ramble...pronounced like anemone, he from HEad gem from GEMeinshaft, ony like PeONY, hegemony from the greek, meaning leadership and standing.
