Went out for dawn shots and was met with lots of clouds. I realized something that I really want to work with...sometimes I am stunned by the beauty around me but it is subtle and I don't yet know how to take the shot so it shows the quality of "I am so grateful to be alive for this moment" but I am determined to try to learn. That's a gorgeous capture of the calm beauty and the dawn colors. That's an excellent question you're trying to answer, but a difficult one. I do think you come closer to its answer than I do!
This one just screams "panorama" to me. The clouds are not as exciting as some, but the bottom 1/3 is very nice, so personally, I would try a drastic crop. You do well to get up early and get out there.
