Best viewed large to show all the glorious detail on the stars. I learned when we did our astrophotography course that with a Nikon D800 there are so many pixels that one can't have the shutter speed any longer than 10-13 sec or the stars come out like the beginnings of star trails. It took some fiddling to get the right exposure but I like how it turned out a lot.
Thanks for being such great friends. Your visits, comments, suggestions, favs mean a lot to me.
You have learnt so much Jane & good you pass little nuggets on to us!! I can see the stars so beautifully in the dark sky in NZ I will have to try a shot like this there. Yours is beautiful & so blue with the contrast of the white dish.
Beautiful! You have been doing such beautiful milky way shots I really want to get back out and do some more! lol... the UK weather isn't working with me any time soon sadly =( Fav
Wow! Terrific shot. I'm sure you learned about the relationship of focal lengths to how long you can keep the shutter open before the movement of the earth causes the stars to trail. I've had the best luck with the widest angle I have (which is not that wide) and can do about 18 seconds before they trail. Would love to talk to you about what you're learning. This shot is a winner!
so wonderful! i find you inspiring. i just got the D800. finally. love what it does for my real estate and architecture shooting. need time to explore the possibilities.....
@skstein it's a telescope...looks like a satellite dish. Taken up at CARMA astronomy research center where there are about 20 telescopes in different sizes
