High Surf Morning in Yachats

Best on black. What a week, month, year! I know I'm not alone in feeling this way. The latest installment was 50+ hours without electricity having just recently filled our freezer to the brim with wild Alaskan salmon, poultry from Butcher Box, and a bunch of fruits and vegetables from our garden. Lots of time spent trying to find ways to save it all...luckily mostly successfully for now. Another big storm coming in tomorrow. I know I have NOTHING to complain about given what people deal with who are smacked with hurricanes but it still was really unsettling. I took a trip up the coast to shoot some high surf.
Thanks for your visits, comments, suggestions, favs. Sorry to be so behind but no electricity makes it hard!
ThisIs a great picture showing the power of the sea during a stormy period.
50 hours is a long time without electricity. I hope the next storm will have less impact.

This is fabulous on black, Jane. That surf is so powerful. Over 2 days is quite a while - must have been scary with the freezer.

Great black and white!

Nice b&w of the high surf scene. A recently filled freezer and a significant power outage...not a great combination. Glad things worked out okay.

The crashing waves and solemn hues add to the drama of the photo. So sad you have been without power, glad you were able to save a good deal of what you had in your freezer, and hoping you maintain electricity through the next storm. We are in the process of trying to get a whole house generator installed but I am afraid the color weather may prevent us from pouring the concrete pads for the propane tank and generator. Hoping for a spot of good weather before winter settles in.

@calm good luck. Wish we had one of those. Even Black Pearl was distressed with the dark house

Awesome capture. Looks like some huge waves out there.. Glad you were able to save most of your goods.

I think you really caught the feeling of that wild ocean. It looks so turbulent and the grey sky just helps make it more chilly feeling. I think that would be an absolute catastrophe to lose a freezer full of fresh wild Alaskan salmon. We are lucky to have access to such food, but it doesn’t make it less hard to handle the potential loss. Hope you saved it all and that your electricity stays up.

No electricity is a pain. That why we have a small generator (for after the hurricanes) so we can keep the fridge and freezer going. You captured some huge waves! I hope all is back to "normal"

I certainly can understand your worry about the freezer as we regularly are without electricity. Good that you managed to save the food. Great shot of the power of the ocean.

This is really dramatic looking. Sympathy on the power outage. Apparently that has been happening regularly on the island so it's made me a little more sanguine about being in the city. Maybe the possibility of vaccines will lift us despite the rest of the mess going on.

Wow what a dramatic scene. Sorry to hear about your lack of power. We bought a generator a few years ago when we had no power for 4 days and lost everything from the fridge and freezer etc.

Great photo depicting the power of the ocean. I hope everything in the freezer is still safe.

This image sums up very well how you are feeling - tossed by the wind and battered! I hope things settle down for you soon and the electricity returns with consistency. Lots of love to you from my corner of England today.

Angry seas for sure. Glad you could save most of your frozen food.

That must have been very stressful trying to keep your food from going bad for that length of time... glad you were able to get out to get this amazing shot. Stellar tonal range and lovely composition.

Great shot of the dramatic angry surf. Sorry to hear about your power outage. We've had several-one for 24 hours- but of course our weather isn't as severe. Hope your food supply survived.
