Best on black but may not be worth it. What not to do? Stand in the cold waiting for the stars to come out after arriving way earlier than you want with someone who isn't being much fun to be with and THEN try to manually focus on stars and get your MSM (move shoot move) device aligned with Polaris with your hands barely still having any feeling in them. I think the color is nice, the scene is nice, the reflections are nice but the stars aren't well focused. A good reminder to me of what not to do. And it was the last clear night for the foreseeable future.
Thanks for your visits, comments, suggestions, favs
Despite the difficulties and inconveniences, your efforts paid off. I always love your night skies, and the stars are beautifully bright in this image. I love this spot that you often choose as well.
I think the effort was well worth it in spite of any inconveniences you may have had. I may have to try a night shot tonight in spite of the threat of the lens fogging.
At 95 sec exposure, the stars will move and look like they are out of focus.
A real bummer re the cold and company, you certainly managed to get a fabulous shot though. I can image that you are not happy with this, as your others are so spectacular. Maybe you are just spoilt ;-)
Sorry about the troublesome company and the cold. Both of which take the fun out of the experience. But we live and learn. On the bright side. You still ended up with a really nice shot.
Good luck on your next adventure.
I think this is where the word ‘nice’ is underrated! I can imagine your guilt & feeling you should call it a day but to catch this is so worth all the uncomfortableness... big fave from me. I could never ever do this!

What MSM package would you recommend? Would you purchase anything different now that you’ve had experience with your tracker? What type tripod head are you using?
@jgpittenger thanks for all the info... most appreciated. I don't see a way to delete your email address from the comment... I think you will have to do it. I've got your email address added to my address book now so feel free to delete that part of the comment. From what I can tell the wedge replaces the ball head and allows for easier fine tuning of calibrating the North star than the ball head would. I joined the MSM FB group as well. Thanks again for the info.
