Best on black. In 2017 we went to Big Island of Hawaii while the lava was pouring into the ocean like a huge waterfall. We went out during the night to shoot it from a safe perspective. We were shocked to see boats so close and, in fact, a few weeks later one was destroyed. When I got the shots home to my computer, I realized there was a photographer on a ledge very close to the lave (look top right). That ledge fell into the ocean several days later. I was just looking through these photos for another project when I found some I had not edited and figured it was time to bring them to the light of day.
Thanks for your visits, comments, suggestions, favs
That is just crazy. Can't believe that photog on that ledge. What a story of insanity this shot tells. Hoping I wouldn't do that but at times I do some crazy things for the shot.
That is an extraordinary shot Jane, I think of all the photos I have ever seen on 365 this is the most memorable. Just the colour & gracefulness of the lava alone & then to see that photographer there on that ledge….good job you pointed him out or I would have missed him. Would love to see his photos!! Big fave of course!
Even without your comments, a brilliant image with lots of image. Reminds me of a coastal walk where I was considering ignoring the sign about the risk of falling rocks only to see a huge section of cliff collapse without warning.
What an incredible shot, Jane! Love the fireworks at the right and the strong saturated colors. Those are not very smart humans to be so close to that dangerous hot lava.
Oh WOW so amazing. I didn't see the man on the ledge first. so I took the liberty and cropped that area and saw the man enlarged. after looking at it, I erased the enlargement. thank you for sharing this with us. I saw it on the P.P.
What a shot!! Fabulous on black. But that photographer up there is out of his ever loving mind - there's chances you take for a picture and then there's stupidity!
