Great on black. Maybe you can help me plan or understand how to plan, Jane. How do you know which lens you'll need with you at any time? Have a trip planned next fall to Glacier and in watching your shots I'm trying to figure out how you can carry all the necessary gear - other than in a car - but if you're hiking - what's the most essential. Most of my photos have been local up to now. Any suggestions I'd sure appreciate.
@milaniet will you be traveling by airplane? I can’t lift much weight overhead into the carryon bin so mostly jim does it for me. I may go to Yellowstone in winter again next year and he won’t be coming so I’m pondering one of the Pelican airplane bags and checking some of my gear. In Yellowstone we travelled in snow coaches most of the time so I had one body with a 24-120 mm lens and one with 100-600 in my lap. I had a macro lens and a fast wa lens at the place we were staying hoping that I’d get to shoot stars( no such luck) or snow flakes. When we were hiking I mostly just took the 24-120. The 100-600 is way too heavy for me to hike any distance with. When I’m hiking and hoping for birds or wildlife I carry my 300 prime lens that is pretty light and Maybe carry my 24-120 in my bag. Is that the kind of help you were hoping for? When we went to Glacier I mostly shot landscapes and just used a wa and I think I had a not very sharp 28-300 then.
@jgpittenger Thank you so much for your thoughts, Jane. You've given me some ideas to think about and I have time to do that. Yes, I'll be flying out there and then renting a car. Hadn't thought - or heard about the Pelican bags - but I've e-mailed your response to myself so I can start checking these things. So glad you're thinking about Yellowstone again next winter!!
