Night Sky Practice by jgpittenger

Night Sky Practice

No need to comment. I just thought I would share my process. The moon is way too bright for decent star shots but I've forgotten how to set up my star tracker and figured I would practice on the deck. This was shot with shutter speed of 30 sec and ISO 100, f 1.8. You can see some movement in the trees but I think the stars are pretty sharp. You'll have to view on black if you want to see the Big Dipper.
Thanks for your visits, comments, suggestions, favs
There are two very faint streaks in the image. Are they planes that were going overhead?

Otherwise, an excellent shot.

@byrdlip you are absolutely right. I’m not sure. There were some falling stars while I was out there

@jgpittenger That would explain why I didn't notice the strobes of the plane.

Thank you for the tech info. I will have to try it some night. We have a lot of ambient light, though, so I am not sure how successful I will be.

Great shot. Guess I should have dropped the iso on mine last night, but think it still would have been too much light. The moon was shining so bright.
