It's a Hairy Shieldbug! by jillhempsall

It's a Hairy Shieldbug!

I've been in the garden today, bit of weeding, planting my new Echinacea and generally pottering. Picked this Echinacea up to plant it and there was a 'bug' on the flower. Another 'where's my camera' moment - shot off into the house and luckily the macro lens was still on my camera. I've never seen one of these before, but apparently they are quite common. Strange little things - a quick google and I find that they are called Hairy Shieldbugs (or Sloe Bugs). I've learned something new today :-)
Beautiful capture. Fav.

That is one strange looking bug! Love your lighting - those Echinacea do attract some interesting critters. Wonderful macro shot.

I've learned so many things like this through 365--isn't that a nice part of the experience? I can see why you've missed this one in the past--it seems to be very good at camouflage.

Great capture Jill and thanks for the explanation. It always helps to know what these things are and 365is a great learning curve and not just about photography.
