Northern Flicker by jnorthington

Northern Flicker

First time I have seen this beauty. It was in deep shade so was not exactly sure what I had shot until I uploaded it. Is it my sharpest, nope; Are the colors good, nope. Sometimes it is all about the "Hunt."
great capture. love his markings.

Great catch! For me, they usually hide behind a branch

@elkereturns
Oh, there were a number of them behind a branch. I was late getting back to work waiting for a clean shot.

Per the bird web pages, they are seen in most of America but it was my first sighting.

Terrific find and fabulous capture! I saw some Northern Flickers when we were in Manitoba this past summer . . . they were always on the ground when I spotted them and would fly off before I could get any decent shots. I totally agree, for me it is almost always all about the "hunt". :-)
