Trundling past the verandah today....

This Lace Monitor goanna about one and half metres long. It froze for a few seconds when l moved to get the camera then carried on.
Years ago we had a really big one that used to laze on a log behind the house. One day l walked really close to the log before realizing he was sprawled out there, of course l yelped and scrambled sideways, at the same time thinking why isn't he taking off. From a distance l could see he had lost half his tail, it was a mess. How, we don't know, we never saw him again, sad ending really for the big fellow
Do they bite?

@joansmor... sometimes Joan, people have fed them, got them quiet then perhaps the goanna wants more food and then there is aggression, they have a nasty bite. Here they are more interested in getting away from us and usually shoot up a tree. I think they are a bit quiet around us but we don't encourage them close in

A very interesting story ime not if there missing tail part regrows some lizards do I think but not sure about goannas fav:)
