Soft shell clams which are cooked by steaming. You remove them from the shells and the "stuff" that holds them there. Dunk in hot water to remove grit (Sea Sand). Then bath in melted butter well for the sheer pleasure. And eat whole. Oh and don't think about the fact that you are eating the belly which is the best part.
I post this in the interest of passing knowledge to those who have never heard of steamers let along had the pleasure of eating them. If you come to Maine the lobster is good but steamed clams ain't bad either. But don't sit down to eat either thinking you can do this in a neat way. Immerse yourself in the pleasure and have lots of napkins at the ready.
