Black Vulture by joansmor

Black Vulture

It was foggy when I left Ocean City but the sun came out when I hit Prime Hook Reserve. There where lots of song birds but I was too slow. But returning to the highway I spotted this guy. Shortly after I got settled in my hotel @olivetreeann picked me up and we went to a neat place to get pictures but I had taken my battery out to give a quick charge. Thank goodness for cell phones. But I still wanted to post this for my project as I have no black vultures in my project. We are going to several falls today. YEAH Batteries charged and in camera and my memory card.
An amazing shot, I've never seen this one before!

He looks rather handsome for a vulture... but his black raiment is perfect for his calling!

What an interesting bird! Am fascinated by what seems to be a separate feather group coming over the left shoulder. Dislocation, unusual feature? Just asking...

Pix of Black Vultures where you can see that the separate feather group (my description) appears to be part of the folded wing when not in flight. The shots of the bird in flight indicate that there must be more 'wing' 'stored' when not flying.

@s4sayer Both the turkey vulture and black vulture have enormous wing span and are so graceful.
