If you live in the states you have probably seen this story. This ice disk formed in the river and is rotating. The birds love to rest on it and take a little ride. It is near my job so I had to go grab a picture. I only took the tablet because I am going out later for a photo ride and didn't want to leave my camera and work which I have done before. I am posting early because I will leave in a little bit (11f and dropping so have to dress warmly and all pics will be from my car.) Breakfast at Congdons.
I just read about this in the New York Times. In salt water here close to shore, ice sheets form in extreme cold and take on regularly shaped patterns. Wonders of nature.
Good for you Joan...Like I said, Im busy thru Saturday am and the disc has stopped rotating and will most likely just freeze all around now. So, I never spotted Wessie and I missed this too! The westbrook curse??? lol
@dianen Well after my morning taking sunrise pictures at Gooches beach (Friday's post ) I went from breakfast, grocery shopping and returned home. My niece called and we got into the disc I asked if she would like to go see it and she said yes. Now I have a proper picture of it with my camera. But you are right it wasn't spinning but on the news a man got it lose and it was spinning tonight not that I was there to see it and there is another in Baxter park. Aliens are invading our state. ROFL
I picked this up from a news feed somewhere and hadn't realised it was in your neck of the woods - how fascinating. Why does it spin do you know - is it the same effect as water going down a plughole?
@vignouse the water moves pretty fast here there are falls just up river - I got picture yesterday will be in my project sometime. Any way the river opens creating a pocket and thus the rotating. It stopped rotating yesterday as it froze on to some ice on the side and a man went out on a paddle boat and worked for hours to free it. Unfortunately when I was there with my camera it was frozen - took my niece. There is another one in Baxter State Park. Then there are a couple of man made ones because that is a thing, They turn them into carousels. Now this are on lakes and don't turn on there own. TMI Don't look at my project today it is a sunrise over the ocean not your thing. It was 6F when I took it.
