@PeterDay and I were Skyping yesterday and discussing his post. I said it was interesting to see what things looked like near him. So we challenged each other to post pictures of our town or the area in which we live. Well, this was at 7 a.m. my time, and shortly after that, the electrician and I communicated, and he came over to see what I would be needed to be installing for the laundry. He said he could do it and would come back later when he got his van from the garage. Well, that meant I had to stay by the phone. By the time he came and left, it was dark and raining. So I had a couple of pictures I took of my neighborhood when I got back from vacation, so I thought I would start with this. I promise Peter I will get a view of the town this weekend. This street is two or three streets over from mine and parallel to it. Look at the wide road.
@vignouse I have a little problem with this shot. It is oversaturated on my tablet and perfectly colored on my laptop. It makes me wonder who is seeing what. Hope you didn't see the oversaturated one. I thought if I tried toning it down in Picmonkey it might make it undersaturated on some other computers. So I decided there is nothing I can do to make it perfect on everyone's digital device. Sometimes there is an advantage to bw.
@vignouse I know I was desperate to show Peter I was trying to answer my challenge. I dropped my D90 with this lens on it and cracked the rim. Sometimes I feel I can't get it in focus. Don't know if it is the rims or my eyes. Had lots of problems when on vacation too. Don't know if I should send it to Nikon to have it checked out or just buy a new one because it is old.
@joansmor I'm guessing it will be the 18-105mm? It's a good budget lens but showing it's age a little - you could do better today. Just a thought though - have you checked that the dioptre adjustment for your viewfinder is correctly adjusted to give you a sharp image... the viewfinder information display should be sharp.
@vignouse I had played with it a little before I left on vacation but felt I could never get it perfect. But I tried now and an interesting thing I discovered. I still can't get it perfect when I am wearing my glasses but without my glasses I get it tack on. I use the eye that had the cataract operation for my viewing. I think glasses are designed for viewing with two eyes. So going forward I will push my glasses up when focusing. I used live view on this one but then I am experiencing problems with the other eye now and think I will probably be facing cataract operation on that one. Don't think it is bad enough yet for insurance to cover so I have to be patient.
@joansmor OK - that may well be the problem... to make sure, take some shots of newsprint at various apertures and see if you can get sharp images. Final thought - if the autofocus mechanism was damaged in the fall, manual focus may still work.
