Polar Bear Dunk by joansmor

Polar Bear Dunk

Polar Bear Dunks are popular here in winter. This young lady was taking her own Polar Bear Dunk. I saw her walking in a bathrobe barefooted and watched her get ready to dive in. What surprised me the most is that people didn't even stop to look. This young lady in the hat didn't even look until my last shot.
Wow! It must be common if they didn't look until the last of it.

I could never go into cold water like that, 24 degrees in my minimum ;-)

They're probably well used to seeing it. I would always look though - in utter amazement!

Far too cold for me! There are several groups of wild swimmers near here, one imaginatively called the ‘Menstrual Mermaids’!

Now that is a brave soul taking to the water! It seems to have become a popular thing to take to the sea on New Years Day, with a large group at Scarborough on the east coast, and in at least two resorts on the Isle of Man.

I have a friend who does this all year round -- they call themselves 'the dippers'! I think she's crazy!

It is a popular phenomenon with us. All you need is a hat, gloves and socks.
