Wild day 7 by joysabin

Wild day 7

My roses had visitors. I had to take a shot before I nuked 'um. They be gone now.
Little lousy ones... tried napalm? What for a macro!

This works really well - what a great combination, IR + B&W + Lensbaby... easy Fav!

You need some virtual hoverflies to dispose of these virtual aphids! Maybe there are some on the 30 days wild pages? Alternatively for next year, plant some umbelliferous flowers nearby and the hoverflies will flock in... they might fool you into thinking they are wasps, but they'll damage neither you nor the roses.

Soapy water works a treat too. Nice photo.

wow..great macro!!

Good luck. I had these guys on my pepper plants. Hard to get rid off them after the population get bigger.

hope they didn't do too much damage to your flowers

Well done.

Happy to hear they are all gone now! They looked destructive and yucky! Save the roses! :)

That's so good in black and white. Like the silhouettes too. I had blackfly on the beans and yesterday I found ants 'milking them' and feeding on them!

Oh gosh, so many of them!

Great image - glad you were able to get rid of them.

@domenicododaro I was very surprised to see them. We don't have a great deal of 'bugs' around here. Can't stand them so yes I had considered napalm but a tad messy and living in a national forest, its rather frowned upon. I used my extension tubes with the lensbaby.

@vignouse Very honored, thank you kindly for the fav. The extension tubes and the lensbaby are a nice combination and easy to use.

@yrhenwr After I took the shot, I brought my camera to the local garden center to ask if the little buggers were indeed aphids. The poor clerk looked at the infrared image very strangely. She asked if they were white since they showed up as such in IR. I got the right spray stuff and went off to zap them into the next life. Ladybugs are the more organic method but they aren't trained to stay put and they were out of them anyway. The aphids did look ghostly in IR before processing.

@365projectorgjenfurj Thank you very much, I should have gone to google to get easy solutions instead of paying too much.

@hrs Thank you, I used an extension tube with my lensbaby, I think a 20mm one.

@ostrowt I used a spray and coated both sides of the leaves and they are no more. I don't like to use chemicals but they were out of ladybugs and also they tend to fly away.

@gerry13 Thank you so very much for the fav. I got two blooms to open today and the aphids are history. I now know what they look like and will be better prepared next year.

@megpicatilly Very grateful for the fav, thank you so much. I looked at the shot on the computer and was rather 'grossed out' by them looking at me. I was also really amazed how well the extension tube worked with the lensbaby.

@sdutoit Thank you very much. The aphids and I aren't great friends but I have so few flowers in my yard and am protective of those rose bushes.

@gardenfolk Can't agree more.

@maskerade There are times when I witness Mother Nature and I am in awe but other times I take the big bad human route and go chemical. Turning the IR to b&w was best, there eyes were very creepy.

@stephanies And so tiny, I almost didn't see them. Once I did, I got grossed out got the spray. After spraying, so far so good, two blooms opened today.

@jo38 Thank you so much, I don't think that I've noticed them before this year. It has been a rather wet year for this area so maybe more bugs is the payoff for more water?

Icky!

@pickerandagrinner Understatement of the year. Thanks

aphids. I can't stand 'em!

@blueberry1222 Can't leave my poor 3 rose bushes alone? Flowers around here are few and precious.
