No streaks

An attempt at capturing a meteor.(Quadrantids Meteor Shower) I did not but, I learned a lesson or two. 1) I became more familiar with my intervalometer (remote with a timer) and the photopills app. 2) I figure that if there is a paved parking lot and building there will be lights on at night regardless of what the desk volunteer claims. 3) Definitely located your desired shooting spot and tape down the lens with gaffers tape for your choosen focus.

I had gone to the Red Rocks ranger station just south of the Village of Oak Creek near Sedona Arizona to double check that the parking gates would be open at 3am when I wanted to set up for my shots. The gates were open although the cleaning crew was in the building and all the lights were on when I arrived at 3am. In retro respect the lights did light up the tree rather nicely since this was my foreground anchor. I stayed for about an 1.5 hours, well into and past the peak of the meteor shower according to a few sources. I do know these events come with no guarantees and are notoriously fickle.

In my humble opinion I wish that the best time of year for astro-photography wasn't in the middle of winter- I guess Santa needs let me know if there are battery powered lawn chairs available :):).
Great photo with a lot of lessons learned :)

Still, a nice night shot.

Turned out beautiful anyway - but I guess freezing your b... wasn't what you came for :-)

A beautiful night sky, however, and yes I think battery powered heated lawn chairs could be a patentable idea

Still a great shot. Meteors are always a challenge I usually find they appear between shots or just outside of the frame!

Photopills is a great app. I have been using it for many years now. When I take photos of the stars, or meteor showers, I usually just set up my camera in my year and go to bed. As for many other astrological events, we had cloud cover the last couple of nights.

Must try and remember the info you've given. Great capture.

You did learn alot...I don't even know what you're talking about...lol!

Well this is a neat image anyway. I so admire you for being up at that time.

@violetlady Thank you so much. I have tried before to get meteors but at least I did actually see one, of course if was not where I had pointed my camera :):)

@haskar Thank you, it all sounds so easy when you watch and read the how to's.

@runner365 I was sorta ready for the cold, had gloves, scarf, did forget the lap blanket but c'est la vie. Each time I try, I do remember what I forgot before so maybe next time I'll be blessed with a few. I can't give up hope.

@domenicododaro You are so kind, thank you for the fav. Sedona was above freezing so I really shouldn't be complaining but next time I'll bring hunting socks and a blanket.

@rjb71 Thank you so much, I agree. My one and only sighting was outside the frame but gotta keep trying.

@cirasj I would love to do that but Flagstaff says that it is a dark skies city but it isn't really. I will have to look into air BnB's in dark areas. I really do love the Photopills app, so very cool and such fabulous support and tutorials.

@overalvandaan Thank you so much. I do recommend the Photopills app, it is very very well thought out and they have great tutorials and support.

@granagringa Suffering for our art, basically. I am a stubborn old lady so I will continue to try. :):)

@jernst1779 You are so kind, I truly appreciate the fav. It took me all day yesterday to edit that since I was truly in a fog. My brain was basically mush all day.

It is a beautiful shot even though it was not what you planned.

@eudora Thank you a great deal. The night sky around here is truly amazing. I still hope that it wasn't best done in the winter. :):)
