PMAE No 188

Sad Day! There was a brush fire yesterday afternoon at my favorite spot on the north side of the San Francisco Peaks - Kendrick Park. The fire was reportedly caused by a private drone that crashed on private property causing about 200 acres to burn. Thanks to the swift and courageous actions of the National Forest Service the Chapel of the Holy Dove was saved as they were able to set containment burns which directed the flames in the opposite direction. None the less, there is damage and the area is being watched for any flare ups. I was warned not to step into the burn area. The flames also did not cross the highway which would have been a unthinkable disaster. Our upcoming fire season is going to be ugly due to extremely low snow totals, and it has started already.
amazing shot of a sad phenomenon

@kali66 Thank you so much. I am saddened and worried.

Your photo is fantastic, but the scene and story so sad. I was just talking to my brother in Colorado today, and he is also worried about fires because of low snowfall. Even without fires, recent droughts have been tough on the wildlife.

Fascinating shot. Am left wondering what society would do without those who render emergency service in such diverse situations. They need and deserve all the support we can give them.

Fires are always such a tragic thing; such beauty destroyed in an instant. Nice way of documenting such a sad event.

What a sad but fascinating image. The burnt out foreground contrasted with the majestic mountains behind.

@eudora Very grateful, thank you. The upcoming fire season is going to be really a challenge for all. I hope and pray that your brother isn't affected in a bad way. I am getting our "go" bags ready, just in case.

@s4sayer Thank you so much. The next few months will either allow us to breath some or make us worry more. Flagstaff is very supportive of the brave fire fighters. We have a few who live in the neighborhood. Last big one,( 2014) the whole community rallied and gave the fighters some many treats, chocolate chip cookies etc.

@stephanies Very appreciative of the fav, thank you kindly. I was so grateful that they saved the chapel and that they also stopped the flames from crossing over the highway.

@overalvandaan Thank you so very much for the fav. I know that the area will recover and that the drone operator did try to put out the fire so there is hope that maybe he won't be flying it any time soon.
