To call this a pot sounds like an understatement as it was about 5 feet high. Apparently earthenware jars used for storing food supplies are called pithoi. Malia is the site of a Minoan palace and town which was destroyed in 1450BC. It was a lovely peaceful place to explore and the warm air was filled with spring birdsong. However the modern town of Malia looks like a place to be avoided in high season as it seems to be the party capital of Crete!
I wonder if this has been put together as I see large cracks in this really antique pot! Good to learn about!

@maggiemae Yes it's been re-assembled, but cleverly done. It's remarkable that so many large pieces have lasted 3500 years.

Indeed it is impressive that such an impressive creation has lasted 3500 years! I admire all the detail on it, too.
