I don't like to shoot the same thing twice...or at least present the same thing twice. Last week I featured the "El Cortez" sign in a shot, but it was a night shot & the emphasis was on the neon. This shot emphasizes the old hotel, and grand ol' San Diego is made evident, as well.
This shot is not actually the same thing, now that I think about it- this is the sign on the backside of the building!
7th Avenue & Ash Street
Cortez Hill
San Diego, CA
A very iconic place in SD. My dad used to tell stories about coming down here -- he lived in LA area -- as a young, carefree, young man with his friends. He told stories about being there.
I never have been inside. I am told that in the 60's the restaurant that was at the top was quite posh & scenic.
I titled it "Lost Seal" because I saw a film from the early 60's, the name I cannot remember, unfortunately, in which 2 men dine in that restaurant & the view is filmed. The movie was about a boy who found a lost seal wandering around on land & finally got it to Seaworld, which I guess was newly opened here, then.
