I stayed at this high-end flophouse one night, in-between abodes, during a move, back in 2001.
I remember the two things I was most concerned with when checking-in were whether it had a functioning color TV ('The West Wing' was on that night) and that the room had its own bathroom & shower. It did.
I remember the shower was in a weird place, kind of in the center of the room, between the door & the bed.
I was able to watch TV while sitting on a chair in the shower.
It was also the only place in my life that I was ever in an elevator that required an elevator operator, a guy running it from within. I remember the elevator was quite small, too.
The Plaza is still open, still a flophouse.
