Chances are this wrought iron gate that allows entry into and out of our front yard isn’t as old as the house itself; apparently the place dates back to 1833. That said, I would not be surprised if it was attached to the rock wall lining the yard sometime around the turn of the 20th century. This gate is barely functional and seems very much part of a bygone era. Diego really likes it and I wonder just how many little tykes just like him gripped the cold metal and tried with all their might to make it budge. Chances are there have been a dozen and I wish I could touch the gate and sense the wonder, excitement and history its metal has absorbed over its long, long life.
