If it were possible to skip the leash of his parents’ watchful gaze, Diego would have run all the way to the frigidly cold waters of the beach. He is truly a child of the sea, a New Englander through-in-through and when his mom offered going to the beach as a New Year’s Day excursion, I knew we’d have one extremely excited participant. We didn’t spend a lot of time there - the winds were whipping whitecaps into a frenzy and lowering the temperature by a good fifteen degrees. But the time we did spend felt like a cleansing. We looked out to the sea and saw our future, our personal horizons attainable one step at a time during this New Year. 2019 will be a good one for all of us.
