This is the gate of St John’s College which is a faded version of Christ’s gate yesterday (which was well researched to be painted as it would have been in the early 16th Century) but features St John the Evangelist- often confused for Lady Margaret as he is feminised as was the fashion in the late Middle Ages. I’ve a vague recollection that it was painted early in my time at Cambridge but it was never as bright as Christ’s. I’m wondering if the Santa hat will find itself removed this evening.
Weather: bright and cold
Covid: terrible nationally, slightly better locally fingers crossed, saw ambulance men in biohazard suits.
Highlight: very understated 31st wedding anniversary (might warrant a takeaway).
Love that Santa hat but glad you pointed it out as I might have just missed it...it’s the little things like that which make a photo memorable! I always love the brick work in your colleges...you must love this one lots! Happy anniversary!
Happy anniversary!
Love the Santa hat touch. Think now decorations can stay up until Candlemas so he may get to legitimately sport it until 2nd February.
As always, great Cambridge capture. Fav
I bet it was understated. Happy Anniversary though and the two trees are a good reminder to hang close to those you love. I am shattered by what is happening in our country
Excellent santa hat! Yes can't believe how bad it's got here in London. And we did so well compared to other parts of the country for months. This new variant is rather worrying and I've still not seen anything that clarifies exactly HOW it's more transmissible.
Love the Santa hat on St. John!
Happy belated anniversary! I had forgotten that you were an Epiphany bride else I would have dropped by yesterday to extend wishes for another year of happiness.
