When you go into town to photograph the queen as she is driven through Cambridge on a beautiful sunny morning it is wise to ensure that you don't have a great greasy mark all over your lens (I had checked battery and memory card at least!). I think it got there while I was sorting Monty out with dog chews and water - and shooting into the sun was a very bad thing. However, it is the queen and is (unless something drastic happens) likely to be the most significant event of this particular day of my 365 project so here she is. Sorry for the rubbish quality - try to see through it to the lovely hat!!
Hopefully @jannaellen will be able to do something better with her shot.
How funny you have posted the Queen too Judith ! She looks better than mine !!!!! She looks lovely in the blue, expect she is having an exciting week !
You made the most out of it - she looks very lovely! With the high-saturation edit this looks like a paparazzi shot, hihihi :). Mine turned out ok, I think. But the most important part was that we were there ;)!
@sosaboe Hahaa - only if I photograph the TV!! Although there are rumours they will be Duke and Duchess (?) of Cambridge so then they may visit - and if they do I promise I'll clean my lens!
Wonderful photo. Fav'd! I love the fact you can see everyone else on the other side of the car. It gives you a bit of an insight into how strange her world must be. She looks happy, but strangely alone.
That's so cool that you have a shot of the Queen in your project :)
Are you getting all revved up for the big wedding on Friday? Or is it no big deal there like I read somewhere in a paper?
@halkia Interesting question that - if you talk to people many say they aren't that interested (men say they are not interested at all!) but standing in the crowd today you could feel a real sense of excitement and people of all ages, both sexes and from the four corners of the earth were truly delighted to see the Queen. So I think there will be a lot of excitement on Friday in London and street party signs are starting to go up around Cambridge. William has his mother's charm and huge support (being handsome helps!) and Kate is popular too - I just hope the press don't get daggers out too soon.
It's so neat that you got a picture of the Queen. What a great fun time to take pictures Friday will be. My mother wants me to watch the wedding (5 am our time) I think I will just catch the reruns!
Great capture Judith , shame about the grease , but its still an amazing picture of the queen I think you did very well to get such a good shot with the crowds of people
@judithg The article I read (in a Dutch paper) said two interesting things. One that the British moan a lot about their royals and don't half realise how much money their royal family is bringing in and how much appeal they have around the globe. The other was that William and Kate have been a couple for so long that the British have somehow lost interest in them, whereas when Diana and Charles got married Diana was a new face.
Oh my goodness...indeed it is the Queen! Well done, Judith! I love her hat and she looks so spry for 80. I'm sure she has a very hectic pre-wedding schedule this week and she seems to be holding up well. :) Wonderfully fun shot!
@halkia Both those points are true and this week the news pointed out that 'brand Kate' is worth more than the olympics which I think signalled a shift in attitude. I also heard it said that this is like world cup football for women (!) but there has been far less press coverage than there is for any big football thing!! Although Diana landing on the scene and having such unusual charisma caused huge excitement there is definitely approval that WIll and Kate have 'practised' beforehand - another big divorce would be a disaster and very sad.
Yes, you've had a lot of divorces in your royal family. I hope this marriage will work out. Have fun on Friday! Are you having a street party yourselves?
I think we should all Email Buckingham Palace and get you on the top table for Friday as compensation! Its not a bad shot, the smudge adds to your moment.
Haha, I laughed at your explanation! Actually I like the shot! It's as if you would have edited a picture to look like an old shot, taken with a bad quality cam (...no offense, I hope I explained my feeling well). I also like the strong contrast!
Oh my goodness, how cool! I must admit I am excited to watch the wedding on Friday. I wish I wasn't, but there is some princess gene built into little girls that stays around even when you become a big girl. Plus, I am a sucker for British fashion....love those wacky hats!
I didn't get to see her in her fancy car, although I saw it drive past after she'd walked past. I did get a shot of her and Prince Philip, but the security guards made better doors than windows.
Wow wow wow! What a capture! I can't even take a picture of my dogs in focus when they are moving! I am sooo glad your pic came out - and I think that is a reflection not a smudge. But it doesn't matter - it is so way cool!!!
brilliant capture- it can't be thht bad a shot i knew who it was when I first opened it up without reading the commentry! Indeed a fantastic moment in your 365, and I really like the way you've captured this - love the people in the background!

See @pandammonium for really great shots!!!
