I visited Rachel at the punt station this morning and while Monty was drinking the river I grabbed a few shots of the punts waiting to go out. All the punts at the company have girls names - I don't know who most of these are but Pimm lives next door to me and made the delicious Thai food we enjoyed last night.
We are off out to celebrate Rachel's exam results tonight but I'll be commenting as much as possible.
I don't know how you do it Judith but I just love your photos !! I think I need to move down to Cambridge !! These punts are so lovelly & the names in a row like that so interesting !! Rachel must be working the punts in her holidays then ..good for her !!! Good exam results too she has done well ! Jack ( my grandson) says he has been surprised at the level of difficulty between the A levels & GCSE's. Does she go to Uni next year ?
Firstly - apologies for a group reply - I don't usually do them but have been chuckling about the 'coffin' comments so thought I'd add a link to Rachel in action 'punting'. Punts are long, flat bottomed wooden boats and you stand on the back and steer them with a pole. Designed for use on shallow rivers - not sure if the other sort of 'punt' comes from the boat version or not! In fact ideally (if female) you lie helplessly in the boat with a glass of champagne in hand while a handsome young man propels you down the river. http://365project.org/judithg/365/2011-03-26@johnnyfrs@rainbowsnic42@paulaag@happypat@hown@whippeteer@snowy@sparkle@bpaquette@sleepdozer57@marytj@cookie123
@happypat Glad you like it - I was pleased with this one! She's just done AS's - I think they are definitely a step up from GCSEs but she worked a lot harder than last year! The chauffer-punting has been a great job.
Just a beautiful shot, Judith. I just love the lighting and the colors and the texture - and the names add such contrast to the whole thing. Very well done! And thanks for the info. Never heard of a punt or a punter!
@judithg Jack has just done his AS 's too did well in Biology, Maths & IT but is dropping Chemistry unfortunately just too hard. Will take another couple & stay on another year .He knows he has to work harder !!
@happypat Well don't get me started on 21st Century Science GCSE Chemistry - really a useless preparation for A'level. I didn't encourage Rachel to carry on with it which is a shame because it would have been useful I suspect.
I've been amused reading all the comments......congrats on your family celebrations...doesn't seem 5 minutes since we were doing them does it? Where is the Judith punt then? What do you have to do to get your name on there.....or shouldn't I ask!!! lol Our world is getting smaller and smaller and yet there is so much we don't know...the question 'what is a punt?' made me smile :-)
Have a proud evening.
