Lovely ladies

I visited Rachel at the punt station this morning and while Monty was drinking the river I grabbed a few shots of the punts waiting to go out. All the punts at the company have girls names - I don't know who most of these are but Pimm lives next door to me and made the delicious Thai food we enjoyed last night.
We are off out to celebrate Rachel's exam results tonight but I'll be commenting as much as possible.
Great composure love the processing, excellent shot.

I don't know how you do it Judith but I just love your photos !! I think I need to move down to Cambridge !! These punts are so lovelly & the names in a row like that so interesting !! Rachel must be working the punts in her holidays then ..good for her !!! Good exam results too she has done well ! Jack ( my grandson) says he has been surprised at the level of difficulty between the A levels & GCSE's. Does she go to Uni next year ?

What is a punt?... Here, it is something that happens, most often, on the fourth down!!! :)

Oh I love this shot the names and the glimpse of the punts making such a pretty pattern tonal range is very attractive too!

looks like trying to make a graveyard for women.. strange thing, but great picture!

Has Rachel got her name on one ?

oh, really like this shot. Lovely seeing all the names snuggled up together.
Have a proud evening.

Cool perspective but kind of spooky like a graveyard or??? Plus...what is a punt?

Thius is a great shot. I love the way you cropped it and the tones work so well. You could have taken this 100 years ago.

love the lines and the tones, great composition

Firstly - apologies for a group reply - I don't usually do them but have been chuckling about the 'coffin' comments so thought I'd add a link to Rachel in action 'punting'. Punts are long, flat bottomed wooden boats and you stand on the back and steer them with a pole. Designed for use on shallow rivers - not sure if the other sort of 'punt' comes from the boat version or not! In fact ideally (if female) you lie helplessly in the boat with a glass of champagne in hand while a handsome young man propels you down the river.

@happypat Glad you like it - I was pleased with this one! She's just done AS's - I think they are definitely a step up from GCSEs but she worked a lot harder than last year! The chauffer-punting has been a great job.

Just a beautiful shot, Judith. I just love the lighting and the colors and the texture - and the names add such contrast to the whole thing. Very well done! And thanks for the info. Never heard of a punt or a punter!

Another lovely shot, Judith.
August 24th, 2011
@snowy Not yet - she'll be angling for one!

@judithg Jack has just done his AS 's too did well in Biology, Maths & IT but is dropping Chemistry unfortunately just too hard. Will take another couple & stay on another year .He knows he has to work harder !!

Judith , excellent spot, i like the dark corner (top right) as it lets the eye move around the image from front to back.

Lovely tones, nice and sharp too

@happypat Well don't get me started on 21st Century Science GCSE Chemistry - really a useless preparation for A'level. I didn't encourage Rachel to carry on with it which is a shame because it would have been useful I suspect.

@phil_howcroft I like that bit - fortuitous mind you. And a touch of sepia ;0) (otherwise there were a couple of green signs that spoilt it).

Showing the names on the punts adds extra beauty to this wonderful shot!
August 24th, 2011
Oh I love this! Fav!
August 24th, 2011
This is a cool shot. I love that they all have girl names.
August 24th, 2011
Great composition! Love the sepia that makes them all the same, with differences in tones only, and names.
August 24th, 2011
This is excellent.

wonderful, I love the staircase effect it gives

Love this shot. Very cool

I've been amused reading all the comments......congrats on your family celebrations...doesn't seem 5 minutes since we were doing them does it? Where is the Judith punt then? What do you have to do to get your name on there.....or shouldn't I ask!!! lol Our world is getting smaller and smaller and yet there is so much we don't know...the question 'what is a punt?' made me smile :-)
August 25th, 2011
oh thanks..i had no idea what a punt was....that is a kick in football for us here. :) love it and enjoyed reading the comments as well
August 25th, 2011
@robinwarner I think the football punt may be derived from the boat version as they are both to do with propulsion but I could be wrong!
August 25th, 2011
The comments have been really fun to read! As a Brit living in the USA now, I've heard the word punt both as a boat and in football!!!! Awesome pic!!
August 26th, 2011
This is absolutely lovely. So cool that they all have names :)
August 26th, 2011
