Along the riverbank in Lode I took quite a few pictures of seed heads. I struggled a bit with the wind but it was the wind that was making things interesting, mostly because fluffy seeds from thistles and Rosebay willowherb were being trapped by other seedheads and creating interesting patterns and contrasts. I think this is a thistle seed and the name of the other seedhead has temporarily (hopefully) escaped me. Nicer viewed large if you've got time. Thanks for the lovely comments on yesterday's pillarbox - I really like that box and am delighted that it was popular! I suspect the spikes are a bird deterrant but why that box was especially afflicted by them I don't know.
How good is this & how did you get that background so dark so that the seed head shows so well ? Sorry questions, questions, but I think it is lovely especially as you say viewed large. Were you & Monty out in the dark ?
@happypat Thanks very much! I increased the shutter speed on shutter speed priority so as to reduce the blur from the wind and that made the picture a bit darker, I used my zoom lens to get a very shallow DOF and lined up a bush on the opposite bank of the lode to make the seed stand out a bit. And then I used 'Boost' in Picnik which emphasized the whole effect (full on Boost as well - I never use that!) It also has a tiny bit of cross-process. Simples!! Practically SOOC ;0)
great detail in this one Judith. love the focus. I was so intrigued about your spike issue that i googled it and spent half an hour reading about post boxes...turns out there's some SIngapore references which were very interesting...nothing on spikes tho!!
@sparkle LOL - you're very diligent! I did have a lecture on Penfold postboxes by the university messenger man the other day - wish I'd asked him about spikes!
@judithg that's funny - i found out all about Penfold boxes last night. I then discovered a red phone box down my mate's road in Singapore earlier so had to read up on as well as post boxes if phone boxes were a "thing" here. Turns out they weren't -- guess it was a migrant one!!
