By jove it's hard work at the moment! I've actually been polishing my lens because all my photos look like I've been using a dullness filter. But it's about time that G.David's bookshop made an appearance even if it's only from the side. I have taken its picture a few times this year and it's got lots of character but it needs to be actually open and with a solitary book browser for maximum effect. I was in town too early this morning (failing to get Adam's iPod fixed...). The house at the end belongs to King's College and old friends of ours lived there when they were students. The current occupants clearly include creative, eager children because it's always decorated for some event or other and the little pink bike is regularly photogenically positioned by the steps. I've always wanted a house with steps to the front door....
Two bikes this time Judith & this is a photo with lots of character !! That looks a very inviting book shop but what I really like is that window with the pot & little wreath plus all the things hanging in the top window. Your framing with the bamboo at the side & the flagged paving all lends to make a beautiful cameo !! Lovely !!!
Oh this is so cambridge. Back in the days when academics and students used to browse book shops instead of attending endless strategy meetings about fees and income generation. Wish it was as timeless as this shot looks!
@fueast Now you're reminding me of a conversation I had in about 1990 with a very old Fellow at Selwyn. He was complaining that Fellows lunch instead of dine these days and I said perhaps it was because more of them went home to their families. 'Oh no,' he said, 'it was the blackout that did it...'
@judithg No time for lunching these days I'm afraid. ALthough - when I used to go to comittee meetings at Queens the Chair always used to pass the port at 12.00 which is a tradition that must be upheld!
this i what i call a trademark judith picture....and i mean it in the nicest possible way...quaint Cambridge, nice colours, well composed and of course a trademark bike :) ...lovely shot judith
@phil_howcroft You're absolutely right Phil - I thought that when I was posting it! It's taken me ages to get this one how I like it for some reason. …
I used to live in Cambridge but it was inMassachusetts
