I've wrestled with myself about placing the subject in the centre of this shot - there is no crop that I haven't tried so critique welcome. It was a miracle on a Saturday morning to find clear pavement between this Fellow in gown and mortar board and me and I only got one reasonably focussed shot before some shopper, oblivious to the photo op, walked right in front of me. Relations between town and gown are pretty peaceable these days since the courts persuaded local yobs that students are not fair game for a good kicking - and it's probably also recognition that academics are just as broke as everybody else!
I resisted the temptation to post St John's College Chapel with the BBC outside broadcast van outside despite the fact that I've managed to procure two tickets to the Advent Carol Service which is being broadcast live on Radio 3 at 4pm GMT tomorrow, if you happen to like Nine Lessons and Carols. There are experts who know about these things who say that the St John's acoustics are much better than King's where the echo requires the music to be slowed down. I don't know - I'm just wondering if I can risk a photo without being thrown out. Probably not but maybe something outside....
nice street scene, I'm no expert but maybe would have a cropped a bit of the empty pavement in the foreground and possibly even tight up to the lamp post on the right? There's been some yob/student trouble up here recently too...
I love this picture, "it's so Cambridge". It makes the photo come alive and straight away people who know Cambridge will feel the realness of the shot. You are lucky to get tickets for St. John's Advent Carol Service, I envy you. We were recorded by the BBC earlier this week for Sunday half hour (BBC Radio 2), we recorded one service for Advent and another for Lent. Hopefully, eventually we will be able to persuade the powers that be that we are good enough for Choral Evensong. We hope ! Once again, lovely shot.
Wow Judith you lucky thing , compensation for the parking ticket perhaps !!! I will try & listen in!! This chap looks like he is almost galloping along & I love the view of this street in Cambridge ! You have managed to get 5 bikes in this shot too !!
like the focus on this - maybe you should have run after him, asked him to cross the road whilst you took your original position....hmmm maybe not! I actually quite liek him in the middle - he's certainly striding with purpose. Re photos - I always got away with it in Kings as long as no flash... but then I did know most of the choiristers!
I agree-- that's how I remember Cambridge when we visited. I'm making this a Fav so I can get back to it to show my husband who thinks he lived there in a past life (or would have liked to.)
