Nigel and I took Monty over to Waresley Woods today where there is a fine display of bluebells -I haven't decided which pic to post yet... The sky was lovely with cotton wool clouds and that stranger - the sun - coming out for most of the walk! This beautifully well kept farm had several gorgeous horses and foals and a large collection of very free range hens. These had a long walk back to the hen house. I am pleased with this shot because the camera settings challenge has taught me something. This week's challenge is a shutter speed of 1/200 which Brendan explains causes some motion to freeze and some to blur - I just took this shot but when I saw the different movement I thought '1/200?' and I was right! Thanks Brendan!
In other exciting news my gorgeous daughter has bought me a lovely big canvas of my 'Gatehouse' photo! I'm always muttering about printing up some photos but I never get round to it so it was a complete and lovely surprise!!
Sounds like a fabloous day all round judith. What a great gift and hope you display it with pride. Chris puts some of his bird photography on canvases and they look wonderful. This shot is England at its best and interesting that you can use other 365 ers advice to great use.
@Cherrill The Camera Settings Challenge is going to give us loads of tips I think Cherrill - I'm just glad I set the first so I could pick something simple - I don't know what setter no.10 will think up!
@calm 2nd May! It came second in the Artist Challenge and I was moaning that it would have been a draw if the 'opposition' hadn't voted for his own shot (it may not have been - I probably miscounted!) so the family heard more about that shot than most!
@judithg Ah, yes! One of my favs! (But then I have a number of your photos as my favs!) I have a degree in Interior Design, and so I love architectural shots! Craftsmanship of this kind is rare these days! And the fact that the gift from your daughter was a random act of kindness is even sweeter than the obligatory Mother's Day gift!
When I saw the thumbnail of this I thought you had taken a shot of a painting! The sort of comforting 'farm scene' picture I loved as a child - just something about the composition, the colours and the shadows. I love it, fav!
What a thoughtful girl you have there & to get you something so personal is a lovely gift !!! This is very interesting about the shutter thing I will really have to have a go at that when the time is right !! The camera settings challenge sounds very daunting to me but I must try & read up all the tips on there.
A gorgeous photo of horses & hens mixed up but they are obviously quite used to each other !!! A great life for all !!
this looks almost 3D judith, a great capture, great news about the canvas too, i bet it looks great on canvas ...you will have to do a picture of the canvas so we can all see :)
I love the chickens running around with the horses in true fee-range mode. Wish I had the time to play around with settings and enter some of the challenges. I need to retire. Thoughtful daughter you have - the canvas must be gorgeous.
