Well first things first - huge thanks for the lovely response to my wet rose and also for the good wishes for Rafiki who is now fine and dandy. Once I realised that she was thirsty and filled a sink for her she stopped trying to escape. Of course she has a bowl of water and so does Monty but neither of them ever seem to drink out of them! I saw a conker in a puddle at the beginning of the month but was on my way back from quite a long walk around the town so I didn't stop to get my camera out. It promptly dried up again and I didn't get another chance for ages - but the puddles are back so here we go.
Three fab things:
1. Our horse chestnut trees seem to have benefitted from the very wet year and the leaves have only recently turned brown and crispy from their leaf burrower infestation (or maybe the leaf burrowers didn't like the rain).
2. The biscuits I sent to Rachel have pretty much survived the journey (but not the arrival - I don't suppose many are left!)
3. You lovely people have put my pic on PP!!
At first I thought that was an onion - silly me ;). A very beautiful portrait of autumn! I have been wanting to take a conker picture for ages, too, but didn't succeed, yet.
Lovely Judith I do love these puddle pictures, I will have to try one myself! Don't you just love conkers.... all that shiny rich brown & the thrill of opening the shell to see how big it is! The biscuits would be pounced on with glee & Rachel the favourite person!
Isn't it funny how something like this is so beautiful when captured in a photograph as you have here, and yet it's something most people would simply overlook as another obstacle to navigate around while walking in their busy day.
Aren't we all the sick ones! Glad Rafiki is well and got to PP.
Morse staying in again tonight, but we're told he's not been infected by Iris pollen (which was our worry yesterday), so they're still working him out!
Love the conker shot.
Lovely puddle composition! I'm off to google 'conker'...apparently I'm the only one who is mystified. :)
Congrats on the pp...but seriously, I think most of your shots deserve that recognition. You have such a fresh eye for a great shot.
Oooh, I haven't seen these in ages! I've heard conkers keep spiders from coming into your house if you place them in corners. Haven't tested that theory myself.
Really spectacular! Love the reflection, the colors, & the education!! I know them as buckeye's here in the US, but didn't know the English called them conkers. No matter what they are called, your photo is brilliant!
Lovely shot, great reflection. Unfortunately we had to cut down our horse chestnut due to bleeding canker. I'm going to miss being able to get conker shots from it but at least I can still enjoy other people's xx
really like this - our conkers are fab round here however the trees are all so diseased their kernels all look gammy and not so photogenic!! I'm on the lookout for some trees in better condition to get some nice autumnal colours!
