A filthy wet day today so I'm borrowing a photo from Thursday. This is the window of Cambridge University Press Bookshop on the corner of Trinity Street. There has been a bookshop at this site since 1581 and from 1845 the Macmillan brothers ran the shop until they left to dedicate all of their time to their publishing business. CUP took over the shop in 1992 and they also have a long history since the Press was granted its Royal Charter by Henry VIII in 1534. The paper sculpting is the work of Justin Rowe who is a senior bookseller in the shop. He did his first work for the Christmas window of 2010 and it was a sensation. You can see more of his work and read about how he came to get started here: http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/Homes-and-Gardens/Interiors/How-Justins-amazing-talent-unfolded-10072012.htm
Three good things:
1. We may have a few needles left on the tree for Christmas Day...
2. After all the boring chores tomorrow it will be time to start cooking :0)
3. Monty's on PP - thank you!!
Very interesting and clever paper sculpting. Have never seen anything like that before. It's a filthy wet day here too............. Tell Monty I think he looks very handsome on PP!
great shot of the window, sorry it's raining there still, if I hadn't have had so many presents in my case I would've bought you with me! you probably don't want to hear it's 28 degrees here!
When I first saw this, I thought it was a statement re people no longer reading books...all to the paper shredder. What fabulous detail on the sculptures
