The eagle eyed Brits of a certain age amongst you will recognise the rugby legend that is Bill Beaumont in the middle. He hails of course from the days of amateur rugby union and in his other life he's chairman of the family fabric/furnishings business. My regular followers will know that I was painting the downstairs loo a couple of weeks ago and when I went to my favourite paint shop to get the paint they had an invitation on their door to meet Bill Beaumont at the opening of their new premises (they've started stocking his fabrics). So I took myself down there to say hello as my beautiful young cousin Sian is marrying his son Sam next summer. We had a nice chat before he was summoned to cut the ribbon and the press photographer (whose son it turns out was in the same university accommodation as Rachel last year) made everybody turn to the paparazzi (me with my iPhone) before taking his photos.
Three good things:
1. Both the Beaumonts I've met so far.
2. Rachel and I saw a kingfisher flying down the Cam at Jesus Green today which is pretty much the city centre - and we saw two at once along the Cam at Milton yesterday - she's my lucky kingfisher mascot.
3. Big progress with Adam's room although there's quite a bit of 'stuff' to get rid of and most of it is in our room :0(. I am not wishing his years at home away but I have plans for making his room into a very attractive spare when he no longer needs a desk!!
We are nearly related Judith.....one of our daughters best friends up until recently was his managing director & buyer of material...he has now set up on his own! Of course he is a Lancashire lad too seriously that will be a good wedding!
Very good taste that shop has!!
@happypat Oh we are Pat!! His eldest son is managing director now. He had a sales chap with him so at one point there was a proper Lancashire conversation going on - all proper accents! I'm sure it will be amazing but my mum says I've met too many now because she is the 'senior guest' on our side and should be meeting the in-laws first!!
@jantan I forget to say was the best part of the morning was a very bent old lady leaning on a stick and wearing an amazing outfit - fabulous green silk coat and hat (like tasteful wedding clothes) - stopped and stared at him for ages and then moved on. She was in front of me so I couldn't see her face but Bill had a chuckle - must happen quite a lot I suppose when people can't quite place you. She was in an odd road to be dressed like that - opposite Kwik Fit and was waiting at the bus stop when I left - a surreal moment!
Wouldn't have recognized him but I have no clue about rugby ;). A kingfisher, how cool! You should make a collage of the before and after of Adam's room ;).
@judithg well not to hard to be posher than lostock hall :-) seriously though I don't know anyone posh from longton. The plumbs were not posh I can assure you! Although they might have thought they were which is why we never got invited to their parties...
Very good taste that shop has!!
