I went down to the hen enclosure to take some photos of the new blossom and found both girls standing on top of the run. This meant that I could take shots much easier than when they are scrabbling around on the ground. Thank you girls. Completely unprocessed - so much better than trying to turn a rubbish pic into something acceptable (see yesterday!)
Three GT:
1. Nigel has put some wire fencing stuff around the trees so that Monty can go outside off-lead.
2. Monty is very happy.
3. The green coated fencing stuff is actually pretty well camouflaged.
Fabulous portrait of your lovely girl! I would love to have chickens...there's nothing better than fresh eggs. So glad that Monty continues to improve and advance with rehab. I'm certain that he was happy to see you return from your Paris trip.
@peterdegraaff She is - she goes broody quite often but is laying us some lovely dark brown eggs at the moment. Her friend 'Powerz' lays white ones and they are nearly all soft at the moment despite giving her loads of oyster shell.
A couple of ours are constantly laying soft shelled eggs. I think it's to do with their age. If I was a chicken I would probably be doing the same myself.
@jantan Also she was a very prolific layer in her prime - I do feel sympathy with her plight. I give her tonic and that seems to help a bit but the shells (at best) are thin so they don't stay fresh for long. I think she's ready to give up laying altogether but her body hasn't switched off - I know the feeling.....
@judithg it is funny how some chooks lay white eggs as opposed to brown ones. Our leghorn lays white ones, the red one brown's, and the black one tends to brood.
