Generally when we head up the A1 to Northumberland we stop off at Pontefract services (practical - coffees, facilities, dog break) and Durham (lovely touristy walk and lunch). This time we decided to live dangerously and stop in Knaresborough in Yorkshire which is in between the two. And it was a real treat of a small town. We walked through the castle ruins and stopped to take this photo incorporating the castle ravens and then walked down the steps to the river. We sat and had lunch in a little cafe on the riverbank and watched the rowing boats (with Tour de. France themed names including Cambridge) pootling up and down to the viaduct which carries trains.
A magnificent bridge Judith....splendid pillars.......I wonder what goes along the top....railway, road or is it a viaduct? Love those tied up ravens......see I know now that's what they are!
