Portugal Place #1

Portugal Place is a very pretty quirky street and I'm sure I'll post it again (hence the title) but it has scaffolding on one of the houses which is ruining most shots currently! The house with the helix is where Francis Crick lived with his wife Odile in the early 1950s. They lived in a little garret without heating or proper facilities but they hosted lots of dinner parties with eager scientists including James Watson and Max Perutz. The helix represents the 'Crick Strand' of the DNA double helix in honour of his and Watson's great achievement of determining the structure of DNA (using Rosalind Franklin's X-ray diffraction pictures). The pretty garden is a triangular shape which I always thought was shared between residents but I was talking to Janet, a fellow dog-walker, in the park today and she said she lives at the house next door and it's her garden - and I must say she has made it very pretty.
Oh, the lushness! Envy!!!
