Girder railway bridge over the River Parrett at Langport
The Parrett looks a bit less full than in the last photo I posted here a couple of weeks ago - despite a few rainy days. The Parrett's source is near Chedington in Dorset, and it flows 37 miles across the Somerset Levels into Bridgwater Bay at Burnham on Sea. It drains an area of around 652.5 square miles, which is about half of Somerset. Part of the reason for the frequent flooding is that the river drop between Langport and Bridgwater is only 1 foot per mile. The railway line connects London with Penzance.
