Small Eggar Moth caterpillars by julienne1

Small Eggar Moth caterpillars

These caterpillars (each about 1.5in long) live communally in tent-like silk structures, usually in hawthorn of blackthorn which is their staple diet. They are very rare in the UK, Somerset being one of their few strongholds!
Super macro shot Julienne. Looks like you got up close and personal with them.

@rickster549 - sorry to give you beebie jeebies again! I thought they were kinda cute ;)

@jomo - there's a pic on this page http://www.montgomeryshiremoths.org.uk/macro%20moths/pages/1633%20Small%20Eggar.htm

@bluerose15 - yes I know that creepie crawlies aren't everyone's cup of tea! At least these move slowly - it's the things that dart around so you never know where they are going to end up that worry me!

@novab @yeshanghai @firzhugh @shirleybankfarm @gijsje @copperband @mona65 - thanks for the lovely comments and favs
