... I can honestly say I have never seen so many butterflies at one time as I saw today in Eastfield nature reserve. You almost needed a gas mask to avoid inhaling them! They were attracted by patches of thistles and they looked as if they were having a wonderful time. I'm afraid I simply couldn't get a shot that would communicate the astounding effect of so many fluttering around - at times like these I wish I were a more accomplished photographer! Anyway, suffice it to say that it was a glorious sight. In this photo the orange one is a Comma, the black and white is a Marbled White and the one just behind the top thistle is a Large Heath. There were also Skippers, Barnetts, Red Admirals, Meadow Browns, Common Blues, Small Heaths and probably a whole lot more that I am not knowledgeable enough to identify ...
Crazy beautiful, I cannot believe how many different species and that you can identify them all - very impressive. I love to imagine you walking through a sea of butterflies - devine! fav!
What an amazing capture! It must have been a site to behold to see all those butterflies fluttering around at once. Wonderful detail and the colors or so bright and cheerful. I'm really amazed that you got three butterflies in one. I especially love the brown heath peaking out from behind the flower. How could this not be a fav.
