An update of the maize pictured in June then a month ago - here http://365project.org/julienne1/365/2015-06-08 and here http://365project.org/julienne1/365/2015-08-06 . It's now almost ready to harvest. Of course here in the UK it's too cold for the maize to grow and ripen enough for human consumption, so instead it's grown as a forage crop where the whole plant is cut and chopped to form a lovely high-energy silage for cattle. It's the second most important forage food to grass in the UK and overall there are around 100,000 hectares produced.
@carla42@nitrogene I love the way Maize towers over the ground beneath making it almost another world from down below, so I enjoy putting the camera down low to see it from a little creature's perspective
@rickster549 - this year some of the corn does look nicely plump and ripe but most of it won't ripen enough. But I must say the silage when it's freshly chopped looks and smells great so I expect the cows appreciate it!
Well, yes, it blocks our view a bit. Maybe next year our view is a field of flowering potatoes or golden barley. Would love that!
