Green Shieldbug Adult (Palomena prasina)

I posted a picture of the final stage nymph here http://365project.org/julienne1/365/2015-09-07 . I always thingk these little bugs look a little unreal - like alien toys or something.
Very interesting patterns on this Shieldbug I really like the black blanket stitch effect around the edge of his shield. I wonder just what the markings mean....do they convey a message to other insects? Its great to see these pictures.

The common name here translates to "Stinkers", because, supposedly, whatever they touch they leave an unpleasant smell. Amazing detail!

@woofandweft1 I reckon that seeing as they are "stink" bugs the marking probably send that sort of message, or as you say it might be some sort of identification to fellow bugs. Who knows!
